About our Preschool

First Presbyterian, Bluefield offers a Preschool from 8:45 am to 11:45 am during the school year. A two day class for two year olds, 2, 3, and 5 day classes for 3 -5 year olds are available.

The Program

First Presbyterian Church Preschool is a non-denominational, non-profit, self-supporting community preschool operating as an outreach of the First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield, West Virginia.

The early childhood education program provides a child with an environment which encourages optimum development during a time in which growth and learning is most rapid. The program provides developmentally appropriate experiences designed to meet the child's inter-related areas of growth: physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. It recognizes children learn best by doing and that play is an important part of a child's discovery, understanding and mastery of challenges in his or her world.

In order for a child to develop to his/her potential, early childhood educators must provide him/her with an atmosphere of security and knowledge that he/she is valued by those who value learning.

Curriculum: The First Presbyterian Preschool offers in its program weekly/monthly Themes, Art, Music, Large Motor Activities, Science, Spiritual Enrichment, Field Trips, Speakers, Special Days, Events and Cooking.

Gymnasium: The First Presbyterian Preschool has a bright colorful gymnasium equipped with climbing, sliding and riding toys for large motor development.

Outdoor Play: The Preschool has an enclosed outdoor courtyard for supervised outdoor activities.

Staff

Staff: The First Presbyterian Church Preschool staff is selected on the basis of education, experience and knowledge of young children. All teachers have college degrees. A low teacher/child ratio is maintained in each classroom.

Three Year Old	(Monday/Wednesday/Friday) (Tuesday/Thursday)
Four Year Old	(Monday/Wednesday/Friday) (Tuesday/Thursday)
Five Year Old	(Monday-Friday) (for children who miss September 1st birth date for public kindergarten or are not developmentally ready)

SEPTEMBER - MAY
Hours:	8:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. Early Arrival Time: 7:45 a.m. $2.50/day
Fees:	Registration: $25.00 (non-refundable)
Tuition:	Monday/Wednesday/Friday $65.00/month Tuesday/Thursday $50/month Monday-Friday $85.00/month Take home Van Service is available for a modest fee depending upon location.

GOALS


1.	To meet a child's basic needs by providing an atmosphere of love, warmth, understanding, security and consistency.
2.	To encourage positive self-esteem and positive feelings toward learning.
3.	To accept each child as an individual and respect his/her rate, style and approach to learning.
4.	To provide developmentally appropriate experiences to stimulate all aspects of growth: physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual.
5.	To work in partnership with parents, communicating regularly to build mutual understanding and greater consistency for children.
6.	To continue to grow professionally, deepening our understanding of children in order to better meet their needs and those of their parents.
