Director of Children and Youth, First Presbyterian Church

 

Summary:  This leadership position is part time with approximately 15 hours per week.  The DCY works under the supervision of the pastor and is a member of the Christian Education Committee and LOGOS ministry team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Attending Christian Education Committee meetings that are held monthly at the church usually after Sunday service.

Working with the Christian Education Committee to plan and implement activities for youth and children throughout the year.  These activities include, but are not limited to, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, monthly game nights, camps/retreats and outside of church activities such as sporting events.

Primary contact for youth involved in LOGOS ministry and youth group.  This includes contacting children and youth regarding attendance, transportation and inviting them to activities.

To provide regular communications, including a monthly report to Session, to church members and interested parties regarding activities, needs, and any information needed.

Attend, facilitate and support the LOGOS ministry program held on Wednesday nights.  Although not the director of the LOGOS ministry, the DCY is an important LOGOS team member and is critical to the success of the program.

 Qualifications:

Must be at least 21 years old.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Must have a high school diploma or GED.  Although a college degree is not required, some higher education is preferred.  College students are welcome.

Previous experience, including volunteer experience, working with children and youth.

Must provide personal and professional references.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Need to have a background in church with some knowledge of the Bible and faith issues.

Must be able to counsel with young people regarding their problems and encourage them in a Christian lifestyle.

Needs to be an example of Christian values and lifestyle.

Needs to be willing to learn or attend training events to grow in knowledge through LOGOS or other denominational resources.
